Login to the MGTS router. GPON routers: characteristics, connection, settings

Thanks to GPON from Rostelecom, users have the opportunity to connect high-speed Internet on their own computers. You can learn more about the technology by deciphering the abbreviation, which stands for gigabit passive optical network or, translated into Russian, gigabit passive optical network.

GPON from Rostelecom

The basis of GPON technology from Rostelecom, which has been awarded more than once positive feedback both among professionals and users, was founded many years ago. Development began to be carried out in the 80s of the last century. Tests were first carried out in 1987 in England. The second stage was a consortium in 1995 dedicated to PON standardization. It was attended by developers and the largest Internet providers in the world. Three years after the consortium, the first optical networks accessible to a wide audience. Further, the technology began its rapid development in other countries of the world.

In Russia, the introduction of GPON is now at an early stage. Active participation this event is hosted by MGTS and Rostelecom providers. Switching to fiber after long-term use copper cable It is quite difficult to produce, as it requires significant costs for laying new lines and purchasing compatible equipment. Nevertheless, Rostelecom is ready to offer GPON connection not only in large cities, but also in some private sectors outside them.

Scheme GPON connections from Rostelecom is quite simple. The provider brings optical fiber to each of the houses, and then, using a switch, the cable is divided and fed to compatible user equipment. In the apartment itself, the signal is converted by a special router, which has an input for optical fiber. Such equipment is quite expensive, so users often rent it from a provider.

Important: Before setting up GPON from Rostelecom for your own equipment on your home network, you need to connect an Internet operator cable and one computer via the LAN connector. After that, you will be able to log into the web interface of the device.

Setting up equipment for GPON from Rostelecom

Suitable equipment for connecting GPON can be rented directly from Rostelecom. If this option suits, the provider will personally configure the network devices in your home. Where equipment is purchased separately, the setup cost will not be included in the initial connection. Therefore, on the router, you will need to manually enter the Internet parameters.

For successful creation networks over fiber should pay special attention to the selection of equipment. The first thing to consider is the functionality of the router. If, in addition to the Internet, you also need to be able to connect IPTV and telephony, it is recommended to purchase a terminal. In other cases, it will be enough to have a simple fiber optic router.

One of the optimal terminal models that can be rented or bought from Rostelecom is G PON ONT RFT620. In addition to four LAN ports for connecting computers to the Internet and a built-in Wi-Fi module, such a device will allow you to take advantage of all the advantages of IP and classic telephony.

After connecting the GPON cable from Rostelecom and the computer via the LAN connector, you need to turn on the equipment and go to its settings. To do this, you need to open any browser and write the IP terminal in the address bar. GPON ONT RFT620 from Rostelecom uses the IP address 192.168.1.254 to enter the default settings. Before entering the device software, it will be necessary to enter the login and password, which have the values user/user. After that, you will be taken to the firmware home page. Internet settings on this model are already predefined by the provider and do not need to be changed.

By default, the equipment does not have a wireless connection that needs to be activated manually. Wi-Fi on a router from Rostelecom model GPON ONT RFT620 can be enabled in the "Wireless network" menu. Before activation, it is recommended to pay special attention to the security settings that will help protect the network from intrusion by strangers.

GPON technology is a new step in the evolution of broadband Internet connection. Due to the high speed and stability of the network, users get almost unlimited opportunities for work and leisure at the computer.

MGTS is a Russian telecommunications company headquartered in the capital, Moscow. From here and the decoding of the abbreviation - Moscow City Telephone Network. In recent years, along with the massive development and spread of mobile access to the Internet (3G / 4G networks), MGTS has also focused on the development of this service, and when concluding an agreement for Internet access, you can also purchase a MGTS router from this company. For example - mf30 manufacturer ZTE.

Appearance router

This device has a very attractive price-quality-functionality ratio. Let's consider each of the points separately, in the second part of the article we will describe the device settings.

Router Specifications

The zte mf30 mobile router has a price range of up to 2100 rubles, and for this money the user receives the following functionality:

    Wireless Wi-Fi router capable of uniting up to five devices into a single network (Standard 802.11g);

    Mobility in the form of a built-in battery, thanks to which the router can be used without an additional power source;

  1. 3G module through which wifi router MGTS and accesses the Internet with subsequent distribution of access between network participants (HSDPA/UMTS/EDGE/GPRS standards);

Router Wireless Standards

  1. Wireless network security using WEP, WPA or WPA2 technology (any choice), thanks to which only those who know the password can access the Internet. The way is closed for freeloaders;
  2. Compactness. Router no larger than mobile phone(98.5 x 54 x 13.9 mm). Turned it on, put it in my pocket and got Internet access;

A slot for connecting microSD memory cards, the ability to use the router as a storage medium.

But it is worth noting immediately the small “cons” of the zte wifi router - a relatively weak battery, 1500 mAh, which lasts for 6 hours of continuous operation (the time is indicated approximately, since it depends a lot on the signal reception conditions, the number of connected devices and the channel load). Also, the weak point is the built-in antenna, and perhaps there is no amplification.

Router chassis

Router from all directions

Router zte mf30 by external characteristics and the location of buttons and ports is standard for similar devices - indicator luminous icons on the front panel, ports and control buttons on the side faces, and a port for USB connections wires and chargers.

There are four indicator icons - the level of charge of the built-in battery, the level of GSM signal reception, Wi-Fi transmission activity, and registration in a 2G or 3G network. The indicators have different colors and different burning modes, which can be found in the table:

Modes of indicator LEDs of the router

There is nothing on the top and right sides, on the bottom end there is a microUSB connector for charging the battery and connecting to a computer, on the right end there is a WPS activation button (automatic installation of a Wi-Fi network with a security key), a memory card slot and a router power button.

Attention! The SIM card is installed under the battery, for this reason there is no “hot” change of the SIM card (unlike a memory card).

Setting up a router

Connecting to a computer

The zte mgts router does not require any installation discs, all the necessary software is located in its internal memory. This is very convenient - we take the USB cable that comes with the package, turn on the router, connect it to a free USB port on the computer, and then the software will be installed automatically. The operating system will first install the mass storage drivers,

Installing the router, step two

We perform the operation "Install.exe", which will install the program on our computer. Everything, the router is ready to work as a 3G modem.

Although, of course, the preferred mode wireless wifi router (when the router is in your pocket), but nevertheless it still needs to be configured, and the configuration is done through the web interface, so in any case, connecting to a computer is inevitable.

Router setup

As already mentioned, the configuration is done through the built-in web interface. We connect the router to the computer (either via a USB cable or via Wi-Fi, it doesn’t matter), open any web browser on the computer, and go to the router settings at the IP address 192.168.1.1.

Router network address

Press "Enter" and the settings menu will open in the browser. The settings are not complicated, standard for routers of this class.

Router settings menu structure

On the left side of the window, we see a structural menu for selecting certain settings, selecting which in the central part of the window selects the submenu (tabs) in the upper part of the window.

For example, consider how to set up a wifi router MGTS for a wifi module

Setting up a Wi-Fi router

In the left side of the window, select the “WLAN” item, in the tree that opens, select the “Basic” submenu. The wireless settings window will be displayed. WiFi networks, which has several tabs at the top. We select the "Network" we need. Everything, you can proceed to the basic settings of the Wi-Fi network.

By analogy, other points are made, which can be found in the video lesson:

Recently became an unwitting user of network access using GPON technology ( gigabit p passive optical network) from MGTS. Immediately the question arose of connecting the ZTE F660 optical router, kindly provided to me by the provider.

As far as I know, now the MGTS GPON network is based on several user devices: ZTE F660, Huawei HG8245, RON-Telecom RFT620 and Sercomm. This material applies only to the ZTE F660, although it is possible that other equipment can be configured in the same way.

So what is there. Router ZTE F660. NAS ( Network Attached Storage) Western digital My Book Live, Smart TV and several PCs.

When connecting a PC over a twisted pair cable to ZTE, there is access to the Internet, but the PCs do not see each other. Plus, the speed of Wi-Fi (ZTE also has wi-fi 802.1abgn) left much to be desired. NAS and TV also did not detect each other.

There was a question how all this business to configure.

A task: Connect PC, Smart TV, NAS and increase Wi-Fi speed.

Solution:
To organize a normal home network, it was decided to use another router. In my case, this is ASUS RT-N10U.

At first, the firmware from Oleg was installed on it, I could not set it up with a swoop. I decided to change to a fresh official firmware.
So.
Download the latest firmware from the ASUS website. I bet ASUS RT-N10U B1 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.376.3754.
You can reflash using standard means, through the web interface of the router. If something goes wrong, you can apply the recovery procedure. To do this, turn off the power to the router (by pulling out the cable), hold down the reset button and turn on the power. The router will go into firmware recovery mode and the power diode will rarely blink.
We connect a working PC with a pre-installed ASUS RT-N10U B1 Utility version to the LAN port. You can also get it from the manufacturer's website.
We restore the firmware to a new one. I did exactly that.

Then we connect LAN 1 (you can also use another one, except for IPTV, although it may work with it, I haven’t tried it) ZTE in WAN ASUS.

We go to the address 192.168.1.1 in ASUS through a PC connected to its LAN. Follow the instructions of the network setup assistant. ASUS will try to determine the connection type on its own, then ask you to restart ZTE. At some point, it will say that an IP address conflict has been detected and will change its IP to 192.168.2.1. Then everything went smoothly for me: I set the SSID name and password. Everything worked.

At the same time, the distribution of Wi-Fi with ZTE automatically turned off, how this happened is still a mystery to me. ASUS cannot know the password from ZTE. Or do they have their own internal protocol?

In general, something like this.

Changing the settings of the ZTE831AII modem is carried out through a regular WEB browser (any: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc.). Using Internet Explorer "a is preferable. (Mozilla Firefox, for example, may display some menu items incorrectly).
A modem and a computer connected to each other with a USB cable or LAN cable is an example of a small local area network. Therefore, before accessing the modem menu through a browser, it is necessary that the computer's operating system "see" the modem itself as a kind of network device. By default, the modem has an IP address: 192.168.1.1 (with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0).

    WINDOWS

You can immediately start setting up, through the subsection. For a provider such as MGTS, the parameter VPI should be equal 1 , VCI - 50 , as shown . Different providers may set different values for VPI and VCI.

Click Next and we are in the next one. Encapsulation Mode LLC/SNAP, a Protocol change from the "default" parameter, that is Bridging, to the parameter we need, that is, .

Click Next and we are in the next one. Enable automatic receipt of an IP address from the provider (Obtain an IP address automatically) and turn on the network address translation function, that is, put a tick in front of Enable NAT, as shown .

Click Next and we are in the next one. Parameter session established by left unchanged, that is always online. After the initial connection, among other documents, you should, as a rule, have an envelope with a login and password. In field PPP User Name you need to enter your login, and in the field PPP Password- the password from the envelope. In the illustration, guest logins are also entered for such a provider as MGTS. Guest login - [email protected] , guest password - MGTS.

If the modem and computer are connected by a USB cable, no settings are required on the modem.

    SUMMARY

It is necessary to note some peculiarities of the different configuration modes. If you need to connect two computers to the modem at the same time, then the only valid setting option is the ROUTER mode. When doing this, do not forget that the last digit of the IP address must be different for different computers. That is, if, say, the first computer connected via a LAN cable, in the section [START\SETTINGS\CONTROL PANEL\NETWORK CONNECTIONS\LAN CONNECTION (right click)\PROPERTIES\GENERAL\INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) (mouse select)\PROPERTIES] assigned IP address 192.168.1. 2 , then the second computer connected via USB should be assigned the address 192.168.100. 3 or 192.168.1. 3 (depending on how the operating system behaved).

HALF-BRIDGING mode only works with computers connected via LAN cable.

The BRIDGING mode is the least desirable, as it depends more on the behavior of the operating system. In the event of an accumulation of errors and defects in the operating system, this method of connecting to the Internet begins to fail in the first place. Although, if for any purpose you need the provider's IP address to be assigned to the computer directly and there is no network card in the computer, then this mode is the only possible option for setting up an Internet connection.

Overview of the optical modem SERCOMM RV6699 | Packaging and equipment

Optical modem SERCOMM RV6699 It comes in branded MGTS packaging, made in the company's blue and white colors with large inscriptions GPON, "New opportunities for Wi-Fi wireless communication" and "Up to 500 Mbps". In addition, information about pre-installed wifi settings(SSID and key) for 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.

The standard equipment is quite concise: this is the RV6699 terminal itself, a power supply unit and a printed instruction manual, but during installation, MGTS employees pull an optical cable of the required length to it, install a separate socket and, if necessary, provide network cable for wired connection of a computer and a set-top box.

Overview of the optical modem SERCOMM RV6699 | Appearance and design

Optical modem SERCOMM RV6699 assembled in a plastic case white color complex shape. On the top panel of the device, which is front for wall mounting, there is a large MGTS logo, many ventilation holes and as many as ten LED indicators, most of which glow green or blue, and only the last LOS (no cable or the transceiver is turned off) can light up red. The purpose of the indicators (from left to right): power supply, GPON, status, phone, Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, Wi-Fi 5 GHz, LAN, USB, Internet and LOS. All indicators are quite bright and visible from afar, even if the modem is installed high under the ceiling.

Both side panels dotted with ventilation ducts, while on the right there is a button to turn the Wi-Fi adapter on and off, or to activate a quick connection via WPS.

All ports and connectors are traditionally concentrated on the rear panel of the modem. Here are (from left to right): a POTS RJ11 port for connecting a phone, four RJ45 network ports, a USB port, a Reset button for resetting to factory settings, a connector for an AC adapter, and a button to turn the device on and off.

On the bottom panel of the device there is a connector for connecting a GPON cable, a system for its smooth wiring ("cable organizer") to avoid creases, two rubberized legs and two holes for wall mounting the modem. There is also an information plate with the serial number, MAC address, WiFi settings default and some other data.

Quality of materials and assembly SERCOMM RV6699 visual inspection does not cause complaints.

Overview of the optical modem SERCOMM RV6699 | Software and web interface

To set up an optical modem SERCOMM RV6699 and its additional features traditionally uses a web interface, which can be accessed through any browser. The menu is quite concise and simple, especially compared to earlier GPON devices.

After entering your username and password, you will be taken to home page, which displays basic information about all connections, including telephony and all connected devices.

To start the settings, you need to go to the "Settings" tab and select one of the four tabs: LAN "General Settings", "LAN DNS", NAT and DDNS.

On the "General Settings" tab, you can select any of the four subnets, and in the TCP / IP section, specify its IP address and subnet mask.

The next tab allows you to assign a name to a device on the local network, after which it can be accessed not by the MAC address, but by this name.

The "Wireless Network - Basic Settings" tab allows you to enable up to four simultaneous wireless networks (4SSID) in each of the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands and make their basic settings.

The Security tab sets the authentication and encryption methods, as well as the PSK key for each wireless network.

The Wi-Fi Protected Setup tab provides a simplified way to register WPS-enabled devices on wireless networks.

On the "Wireless MAC Address Control" tab, you can specify which devices with which MAC addresses will be allowed access to local wireless networks and which ones will be blocked.

Finally, on the "Auto channel selection" tab, you can enable automatic channel selection depending on the workload of the air.

The NAT section provides the ability to configure external services on the local network, such as web servers, FTP servers, mail servers, or other Internet applications.

On the Port Mapping tab, you can set port forwarding for each of the predefined applications in the drop-down menu, or create your own settings by clicking the "Set User Service" button.

Dynamic port forwarding for applications that are unable to work through the built-in firewall can be configured on the Port Triggering tab.

The DMZ Host tab is used to set up a "DMZ" that restricts certain servers from accessing the main network segments to a DMZ perimeter blocked by a firewall.

The Application Layer Gateway (ALG) settings for passing specific user application or protocol traffic outside the NAT are contained in the ALG tab.

On the UPnP Settings tab, you can enable automatic tuning routes for video conferencing, online games and other Internet applications in the local network.

The "Static NAT" tab allows you to set up to 20 static NATs with their IP addresses, ports and protocols.

In the DDNS section, you can configure DDNS servers (there are several providers to choose from) so that other Internet users can connect to you using a dedicated domain name.

The "Services" tab consists of three sections: Firewall, "Telephony" and USB. In the Firewall section, general and fine-tuning of the firewall is performed. First of all, you can choose one of the preset protection levels, or make your own settings.

Advanced session settings and DoS protection rules are contained in the SPI tab.

There is a classic firewall filtering function by IP:

In the "Parental Control" section, you can set time limits for networking devices with a specific MAC address, as well as filter access to sites by their URL.

The "Telephony" tab contains the only setting - the choice of the type of automatic caller ID, which is set depending on the specific network.

The USB tab consists of five sections where you can configure external storage devices, a Samba file server, an FTP server, and a print server and a DLNA media server connected to the USB port so that they are available to users on the local network.

The "Maintenance" tab consists of four sections: "Password change", "Diagnostics", "Event logs" and "Configuration file".

The "Change password" section allows you to change the administrator profile and set a new password.

On the "Network Diagnostics" tab, you can "ping" a specific IP address or URL in packets ranging in size from 64 to 65500 bytes.

The "Event Logs" tab consists of two tabs: "System Logs", where system event logs are kept, and "Call Log", where phone numbers and their IP addresses are tracked, as well as the duration and time of connections.

And finally, on the "Configuration File" tab, you can return all router settings to factory defaults.

Overview of the optical modem SERCOMM RV6699 | Communication speed

The tariff for using the MGTS GPON network set for us provides for data transfer in both directions at a speed of 150 Mbps. Speed measurements at wired connection to a computer using the speedtest.net network service from Ookla showed that real speed fully corresponds to the declared indicators with minor deviations, depending on the test server.

To check the wireless connection in the 5 GHz band, we used the Speedtest application from Ookla installed on the Honor 9 smartphone running the Android 7.0 operating system. At a distance of up to about 3 meters from the router with an excellent signal, the access speed fluctuated between 130 and 150 Mbps, depending on the test server, which can be considered an excellent result.

However, at a distance of more than 3 meters in a city apartment in a brick house, the signal level began to drop sharply, and the real speed dropped by about a third to 50-55 Mbps. Of course, this is still a very comfortable Internet access speed, but such a significant signal drop at such a short distance indicates a clearly insufficient power of the built-in Wi-Fi module for the conditions of a city apartment.

Overview of the optical modem SERCOMM RV6699 | conclusions

Fiber-based GPON technology, actively promoted in Moscow by MGTS, is a really convenient, modern and technologically advanced way broadband access on the Internet, offered for a reasonable price. In particular, at the time of writing this review, the minimum tariff line " Home Internet GPON" was 300 rubles per month for access at a speed of 30 Mbps, and the maximum was 1600 rubles per month for a speed of 500 Mbps.

Besides, GPON technology allows you to provide a single 2-mm fiber optic cable not only Internet access services, but also a home landline telephone with number preservation, and high-definition television (via a separate set-top box), and, connection of a security alarm. At the same time, due to the large width of the WAN carousel, all these services can work on top speed without any mutual influence.

Optical modem SERCOMM RV6699(it is also a router, access point and VOIP gateway) is the latest model of MGTS branded equipment that supports work in Wi-Fi standard IEEE 802.11ac and 5GHz band, which can provide wireless communication at speeds up to 600 Mbps. Until recently, such speeds seemed fantastic even for a wired connection!

Modem SERCOMM RV6699 has a lot of settings and a well-thought-out Russified web interface, intuitive even for people who are not familiar with network technologies. However, one cannot fail to note its significant drawback - the low power of the built-in Wi-Fi module, which is why the signal level drops rapidly with distance from the device, and the declared speeds are realized only in the immediate vicinity of the modem.
