How to find out the series and number of the passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation

The passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation is the main certificate that not only certifies the identity, but also allows you to exercise all your rights. Without it, it is impossible, for example, to buy a home, get a diploma, get married or defend your rights in court.

basic information

The main document in the Russian Federation is issued at the age of 14 and is valid until the age of 20, after which it should be changed to a new one, which will be valid until the age of 45. Upon receipt of it after 45 years, it is valid indefinitely. The main identity card contains the most important data about a person: last name, first name, patronymic, date and place of birth and gender. No matter where you live and how many namesakes you have, the assigned series and passport number, examples of which can be found below, are unique for everyone, and thanks to them you will not be confused with someone else.

Form numbering

The numbering of the form of the main identity document consists of three groups of numbers, which are located at the top of pages 2 and 3. They are applied using the so-called letterpress printing. Very often, in questionnaires in which you need to enter basic data about yourself, these designations are needed, because each person should have information on how to find out the number and series of a passport. For this:

  1. Open the page where your photo is located.
  2. Rotate it counter-clockwise as the desired values are oriented perpendicular to the body text and the photo itself.
  3. Above you will see an inscription of 10 numbers. This is the necessary information. The first 4 digits are the series, the next 6 are the number, for example, 50 03 123456.

In addition, these data can be found at the bottom of pages five through twenty. There they are applied using laser perforation. Through-burning caused the data to be mirrored on even pages.

Now that you know where the series and passport number are, it remains to find out what these numbers mean. The first two-digit number is the numeric designation of the region in which it was issued, the next two-digit number is the year it was issued. The last six digits are assigned to each document individually.

Can I find out the numbering of the form by name?

Sometimes it becomes necessary to find out the number and series of a passport by full name. In fact, it is impossible to do this, and numerous Internet services that provide this type of service are most often fraudulent. The fact is that the surname, name and patronymic are not unique. In such a large country as the Russian Federation, there can be more than a dozen or even hundreds of people with the same full name.

Having this document is very important, so just in case you need to know what to do if your passport is lost.

If you know exactly, for example, in which region the document was issued, it is far from always possible to say what exactly the first digits will be, since some regions of the Russian Federation have two or more numerical designations, for example, the Krasnoyarsk Territory - 24, 84, 88, 124 or Moscow region - 50, 90, 150, 190. The next pair of numbers can be set knowing the exact year the form was issued.

The Civil Code of the Russian Federation states that citizens acquire and fulfill all their rights and obligations under their full names. That is, formally, the main document is not needed for this, but its absence greatly limits civil opportunities, even with other certificates.
